2003 - recognizing plug-in USB devices a la XP ?

Null: devices properly at plug in (and loads drivers), they don’t appear in the Windows Explorer for drag-n-drop use. Is there someway to get them to appear without loading device specific software? In XP, it works just fine, but 2003 seems …
